  1. I played D&D with the junior priest at our parish one time -- I was about 10, I guess. He mocked my character openly.

  2. Wow!

We have some gamers in our church, but alas, no clergy that games. It would be 28 years too late, anyhow.

I'm guessing no one from Chick Ministries responded.

  3. I actually have a Presbyterian minister at my game table - she plays a eladrin wizard. Heh...

  4. I think it dates back from the time where D&D was attacked being satanic and pushing people to commmit suicide. Things like that.

I don't have the URL off the top of my hand but it somewhat started by the suicide of a teenager who was too much in D&D and whose act got committed after his character got killed.

They were just trying to do some PR.

  5. Wow, that brings up a lot of memories. Thankfully I entered RPGing after that sort of mania had died down.

  6. I remember that posting. (Darn am I old...) They were trying to beat down the flames of church hate. (Chick tracks anyone) Luckily the leader of the youth group I was in ran a game. Not at the church of course, but he did run it... And we also had a lot of kids whose parents where influential in the church and the community....

  7. Well, apparently, they got what they wanted. In Dragon #41 there is a lengthy article titled "Reflections of a real life Cleric" that was written by Reverend Arthur Collins. I'll see if I can dig it up - if you are interested just send me an email (jonathan dot jacobs at gmail dot com)
